This programme is like a quiet pre-Christmas conversation, where each note becomes a warm, gentle letter.
Pärt’s Fratres and Spiegel im Spiegel open the evening with pure, transparent meditation. Kancheli’s 18 Miniatures bring intimate melodies from his theatre and film worlds. Silvestrov, a spiritual companion to both, offers music of light and quiet reflection, with selected miniatures chosen for their tenderness and beauty.
All three composers were connected to Lviv, a city that remembers them as kindred spirits seeking peace and clarity through sound.
“Christmas Letters to Friends” is an evening of warmth and gratitude, where music speaks softly in place of words.

Ukrainian pianist Violina Petrychenko, renowned for her artistic mission to bring the beauty of Ukrainian classical music to audiences across Europe, presents a luminous Christmas programme in Cambridge — and this will be her only concert in England.
This evening offers a rare opportunity to experience a poetic dialogue between European and Ukrainian musical traditions. The refined intimacy of Chopin and Kosenko meets the lyrical depth of Lyudkevych and the delicate expressiveness of Barvinsky.
